I think they’re glued on, what happens during the cleaning process?

24 Aug

Amy brought her wedding gown into our Bayview and Soudan location for cleaning and preservation.

She had one concern. She believed that the flowers on the left shoulder of her wedding gown had been glued on. She wanted to know what would happen.

Our store staff advised Amy that our wedding gown specialists would contact her after completing their inspection of her wedding gown to discuss any concerns or issues.

Parkers’ gown specialists examined Amy’s wedding gown looking for stains, small tears, snags in the silk etc. Amy was correct, the flowers were glued on.

In order for our experts to clean her wedding gown without damaging the flowers, they needed to be removed prior to cleaning. Amy was contacted and gave Parkers approval to remove the flowers to clean the gown.

After cleaning, the flowers were sewn on.

Can you tell the difference?

Wedding gowns require special care, attention and a lot of time.

Every so often a bride will ask how come it costs so much to clean a wedding gown.

Wedding gowns require special care, attention and a lot of time.

Prior to cleaning all of the bustles on the train must be undone. Our seamstress will need to inspect each wedding gown to ensure that all of the beading on the wedding gown is secure. Any loose beads will be secured. Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do with missing beading unless the bride has extras.

Our cleaning specialist and wedding expert then examine wedding gown, looking for stains, tears, minor repairs and special instructions. Once the inspection is complete, the best method for cleaning each wedding gown is discussed. Gowns are cleaned using one of 3 environmentally friendly cleaning methods, GreenEarth, Solvair or Wet Cleaning.

Wedding gowns are then pre-treated for stains and then cleaned.

After the cleaning process, our specialists will re-inspect each wedding gown to ensure that we are satisfied with the cleaning. If we feel that a wedding gown needs to be re-cleaned to try and remove stains, we will do so.

Once our experts are satisfied with the cleaning of a wedding gown, the wedding gown is then pressed or steamed before the bride is asked to come in and inspect their wedding gown.

Steaming or pressing a wedding gown can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.

Wedding gowns that have flowers or embellishments attached to the gown must be steamed by hand. Every layer of crinoline must be steamed individually to avoid wrinkles.
