Some of our customers and even some of my friends are into having destination weddings and “trashing the dress” but, Caroline’s story blows the rest I’ve heard out of the water.
It all started when Caroline called to arrange to have her wedding gown picked up by Parkers Custom Clothing Care for cleaning. She was undecided at the time as to whether she was going to sell her gown or have her wedding gown preserved.
She called on Parkers to do the job. We are one of the only dry cleaners in Toronto who is a member of the proud members of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists, and Toronto’s oldest dry cleaner. She knew her gown would be in good hands.
What Caroline didn’t tell me on the phone was how just how she “trashed” her silk wedding gown. After the ceremony she, her husband and their entire wedding party decided to jump into the ocean. After that, they all decided to jump into the chlorinated pool. (At this point, I was cringing: the poor wedding gown.) Then if that wasn’t enough, she and her husband decided to sit in the hot tub. By the time I picked up the wedding gown, you could smell a combination of chlorine and salt. Not to mention the wet sandy smell. You should’ve felt how hard the gown had become. Thank goodness we have an amazing team.
From our experienced tailor who had the task of taking apart the hems, and pulling the layers of lining apart so that we could get half the beach out . . . to our expert cleaner who had to carefully treat the gown to remove the water marks, ground in dirt, and of course the wine stains (that had now been set in) . . . to our wedding gown specialist who had to steam the gown (pressing is never recommended on silk) our team did a fantastic job. So fantastic, that Caroline changed her mind and decided to have her wedding gown cleaned and preserved by Parkers Cleaners. I am still amazed at how well the gown came out.
Caroline told me that she might even re-new her vows in 5 years and “trash” the dress again.
